Sleep is the state of reorganization and reorientation of the finest brain functionalities. The physical body is at rest. However, the heart and the respiratory system functions. Our research group strongly believes that certain vital parameters are more prominent and free of artifacts when measured during sleep. The signals such as heart rate, heart-rate variability, respiration rate and respiration rate variability can be analyzed in the minutest details to indicate many many health parameters and impending diseases. This is the prime motivation which leads to the discovery of these devices. Our prime focus is the analytics at different levels of implementation such as follows:
Level-1: On the sensor itself: This device has the sensor as well as a low-power processor to do prefiltering, thresholding, and wireless transmission. Here the state of sleep can be found out, and the signal can be used to for real-time control of air conditioners, light, and other devices. It could be utilized for generating an alarm in case of unusual and emergency conditions such as breathing problems, heart attacks, etc. It then transmits the necessary data to the cell phone or embedded board where there is the second level of more detailed analytics.
Level-2: This is a smart-phone based analytics using android or iOS. The data analytics is run here to deeply analyze the historical data of heart rate, heart-rate variability, respiration rate, respiration rate variability to generate the minutest sleep-states, dream states, sleep apnoea, heart functionalities, etc. It can be customized to work as an effective health monitor for the user. The apps will be used for active display of well-being parameters. It could be connected to the doctor or the next level of analytics.
Level-3: This is a cloud-based analytics working or the feeds of several sleep devices having level-2 capabilities. It gathers sleep data of individuals who are registered users of our breath sleep sense. This runs extensive data-analytics on individual’s extended historical data. This can be used to analyze the group health. The changes in the sleeping pattern, heart-rate and respiration rate patterns can be an excellent indicator of health. This is a historical device with in-depth analytics at different levels. This will change the whole health monitoring concept of modern times. Our team at IIT Kharagpur is working day and night to launch the product by Feb 2017.
